Tutorial: Cable Loops

Drawing a cable loop is an excellent skill that any scribe should have. It's a great way to fill in some space within a framed border. To help scribes learn to construct a cable, I've created this level 2 scroll tutorial LINKED HERE.

Scroll: Southhampton Variation

This is a variation on the Southhampton Squares tutorial that I posted previously.

In this version, the center of the frame is filled with a twisted loop and the bottom section of the border is left blank. You could still add the zoomorphic letter within this design or go for something else depending upon space conservation.

The scroll design at the top of this page has elements from an Egyptian or Coptic culture. The two-column text block would mean that the calligraphy would have to be small but it could work for a basic award.

The border at the bottom of the page is an Anglo-Saxon, early-period geometric design.
